For the third year running, in 2011 we were awarded 'Outstanding' category in the A Greener Festival Awards. Only a handful of festivals in the world achieve this, and with your continued support we keep on doing it bigger and better. Here are a few things you can do to help our eco credentials:
We're in our usual place again in the Arboretum, creating an area of calm where you can have a picnic in our wildflower meadow, or just generally chill out and hide from the general hustle and bustle of the festival. We'll have some groovy acoustic sounds and you can visit the Eco Island Project and Gift to Nature, who will bee featuring our fantastic bee campaign, Let it Bee.
1500 of you have answered the call this year and signed up to become part of the first year of RESPECT. A totally new initiative asking you to sign up to our tent commandments and pledge to take your tent home with you after the festival. You also receive a complimentary GreenBack card (normal cost £25) courtesy of the Eco Island Project through which you can receive discounts at over 80 different retailers. Click here for more Respect information.
LET IT BEE is our ongoing bee campaign, entering it's 3rd phenomenal year in raising awareness around the plight of all dwindling bee populations in the UK and all over the world due to loss of habitat and other pressures.
A campaign initiated by Eco Action Partnership, and supported by A Greener Festival. Please please please - remember to clear up after you throughout the festival and especially when you leave. Dealing with the tents and waste left over at the end of the festival is a huge environmental impact for all festivals as the flimsy tents and camping equipment cannot be reused or recycled so in most cases end up in landfill. Join the Love Your Tent campaign on facebook and twitter and help us to stop this happening at every festival.
Why not share your journey to and from the festival. We're working with two of the leading car sharing companies this year, Liftshare and GoCarShare, to make it easier for you to reduce your travel footprint as much as possible.
Fancy a bit of a pedal? Or a go on a whirlygig? How about a hamster wheel? We've installed a kinetic playground this year, situated opposite the Garden Stage and next to the beach, which means that as you use the playground equipment, you create energy which goes towards helping to power the activities at the beach!
There are plenty of waste and recycling bins situated round every part of the festival site, so please do your bit and make use of them when you can.
When you have finished showering please turn it off after you. If you are using one of the water stand-pipes around the site to fill bottles please don't leave it running.
No glass is allowed onsite, so please decant wine/spirits into plastic bottles before you arrive or they will be confiscated at the gate.
A massive thank-you again for all of your efforts in supporting our initiatives over the last few years and we hope together we can make this celebratory tenth year a successful and sustainable one.
