UK rap veteran Dr Syntax first cut his teeth at open mics and battles in Brighton in the early 2000s, regularly performing as part of hip hop crew The Menagerie, alongside Professor Elemental, Tom Caruana and DJ Nick Maxwell.
Around this time, he became a regular collaborator and guest with the legendary Foreign Beggars crew, featuring on their first three albums and performing with them at countless live shows worldwide.
He embarked on a solo path in 2007, releasing his acclaimed debut ‘Self Taught’, followed by several collaborative albums, including the follow-up 'Benny Huge', 'A Slice Of Fried Gold' (with producer Tom Caruana) and 'Scene Stealers' (with rapper-turned-Hollywood star Ed Skrein as 'Skreintax'). Songs such as ‘My House’, ‘Middle Class Problems’ and ‘Hire Me’ showcase his trademark humour and creativity to a tee.
Since 2010, Syntax has been working extensively with producer, DJ and occasional MC, Pete Cannon. As a duo, Dr Syntax and Pete Cannon have carved themselves a niche with their irreverent, often comedic take on hip hop (with a touch of bass music and jungle for good measure), and have a string of well-received releases to their name, including three albums and two EPs since their full-length debut ‘Killer Combo’ dropped in 2014.
Dr Syntax continues to work on new music with Pete Cannon and various other collaborators, with a new EP 'Wallop!' scheduled for release in March 2019.
