Here's a round up of all we're doing at The Isle of Wight Festival 2024 to make our event sustainable.

Carbon Emissions

  • A percentage of our power needs are coming from biofuel that has reduced carbon emissions compared to regular fuel.
  • GeoPura is thrilled to partner with the Isle of Wight Festival 2024 in pioneering sustainable power solutions for large-scale events. Our hydrogen-powered generators (HPUs) are replacing traditional generators, providing zero-emission electricity for crew, artist catering, and part of the guest village.

This collaboration underscores the festival's commitment to environmental responsibility by reducing its carbon footprint and improving air quality. Together, we are not only powering the festival with clean, reliable energy but also setting a powerful example for future events. GeoPura is proud to support the Isle of Wight Festival in its mission to become the most sustainable festival in the country.

  • During the rest of the year, the festival produces 950,000 kWh of electricity to the national grid using grass cut from the camping fields.
  • We measure and report on the carbon emissions of the festival and have set targets to reduce our emissions.
  • We offer a number of low carbon travel options to get to the festival – including travelling with Big Green Coach from one of their many pick up points.
  • For each car parking ticket purchased, the Isle of Wight Festival is donating £1 to Natural Enterprise to fund local tree planting projects via ‘The Big Tree Plant’.

Plastic and Waste

  • Festival goers are encouraged to bring refillable bottles of any size to refill at the water points inside the arena for free.
  • We have increased the amount of cans we serve over the bar with the new Liquid Death Water, with no plastic bottles sold.
  • All cups are paper and cups and cans sold in the arena have a 10p deposit included in the price which can be redeemed at the return points in the arena (minimum 5 for 50p).
  • We have banned all single use plastic cutlery and serveware at the festival.
  • We work with local food redistribution charity, the Real Junk Food Project and the Monkey Sanctuary, to make sure any surplus food is put to good use.
  • All customers are encouraged to take their tents and camping gear home with them, but any that are suitable for reuse and no longer needed can be packed up and given to Herts for Refugees at our campsite info hubs, definitely not left in the field!

Green Team and Recycling

  • We have a green team who are on hand to give out recycling bags to customers to use in their camps and tell festival goers about our green initiatives.
  • We operate a two-bin system in the campsites (recycling and everything else) all waste will be sorted off site at a local material recovery facility.
  • Each campsite will have a recycling point where campers can collect recycling bags and return them when full, to be given the opportunity to take part in a prize draw for fantastic prizes via our Recycling Rewards scheme.

Love Your Tent and Engagement

  • Love Your Tent run 2 x environmentally minded campsites. The Love Your Tent and Respect campsites where all campers sign up to a pledge to respect the land and take their tents and camping gear home. These campsites have always been left spotless.
  • Love Your Tent put out an environmental message on the big screens every year that is filmed at the festival.
  • We are joined by Greenpeace to talk to festival goers about environmental issues and taking climate action.
